Crazy Situation 46!
Right then, Omex on, just needs a mapping session (10th May) so, I thought as the car is tax tested insured and the sun is blazing, time to start
putting the cage on
While measuring the heights either side of the loop the horn goes beep beep! WTF? nowhere near the horn button... Tries again 39 5/8, beep beep...
looks down and the tape touching the floor and brushing the ignition barrel.. beep beep!
How can seemingly earthing the ignition barrel, which is attached to the column, which in itself is earthed result in a beep beep?
Any ideas peeps, its intriguing me

I reckon the missus is stood behind the door watching you and playing a 'beep' on her phone everytime you measure
or maybe it's a clever tape measure that beeps when you hit 39 5/8 ?

the horn push must switch the earth..
and by earthing the column you are completing the circuit..
(sounds good to me anyway!!!)

Sierra column even when bolted to the car needs an earth.
There is an earth wire that comes from the 2 pin horn contacts to the outer ally steering housing, this needs a decent earth to the chassis.
If the horn fires on earthing then you have an open circuit via the horn push.
