ignition live wiring

hi all
just a question regarding ignition live and live wires for car.
i have a loom supplied by gbs and have wired it into car.
however, i need switched lives for my gauges and switches.
how do i go about doing this? there are 5 gauges and 2 switches.
also for the gauges, i need a feed from the lighting circuit to illuminate the dials. how is this done? what sort of connectors do i use?
i consider myself to be a novice at all this electickery stuff so if people could explain as simple as possible maybe with pics, that would be very helpful
thanks for the help
steve

I have a main ignition relay on mine which is activated by the ignition switch. From this relay the main ignition live goes to the fuse box where every circuit that is an ignition live is connected via a bus bar. It's a bit difficult to explain in words, hopefully someone will come up with a diagram.
