Wiring Software for diagrams
Hi all,
In the midst of wiring my car and was thinking i need to actually document what i have done for future reference etc. Does anybody know of any free
software you can download for drawing up wiring diagrams?

Open Office Draw package can be used to draw boxes and has a selection of connectors that can be used for the wiring lines. May do the job and is

I looked for ages for something that would do the job, getting coloured lines with stripes/tracers seemed to be almost impossible

You can fudge tracers in lines in Visio using the line styles, but it's far from perfect.
I've been using yEd to knock up network/system diagrams recently, once you've
spent half an hour getting familiar with it it's remarkably easy to use, I've been churning out diagrams in half the time it takes me to
do anything in Visio. The downside to Yed is that for car wiring diagrams you will have to find SVG diagrams for switches/lamps/components etc
yourself, it doesn't come with much out of the box.

you could try to break down the individual circuits and sketch them by hand something along the lines of what i wrote here in an article for another
club....

dont make them too complicated, the wire goes from a power source through a switch of some sorts to the consumer, make it simple!!!
sometimes you are the pigeon, most of the time the statue.

How about a free CAD program? Try draftsight, free download from dassault systemes (same people who do solidworks) we use it at work and you can do
plenty of lines in differen colours and draw whatever blocks you want. You can alos layer the drawings so you have different layers for say your
lighting loom, your engine loom etc.

Daft as it may sound
I have done some great drawings in Excel
Draw lines in any colour add text and you can also inport bitmaps and photos.

I've used this in the past...and they can make up a PCB from your design if required.
