GSXR K1 Fuel Pump primes, then doesn't run

Thanks for the help yesterday, turned out to be the 100ohm resistor in the igntion circuit missing...

Now i've managed to start the engine - but it'll only run for a second. When you turn on the ignition it starts the fuel pump (it's an external one, but wired through the ECU) for a few seconds. On cranking and running it doesn't run the pump! If you turn on ignition and hit starter very quickly you can use the residual pressure to run the engine for a few seconds...

It's not the tipover switch as if I short that- it doesn't run the pump at all.... I can't even self power the pump as the relay also livens up the injectors - so it's cutting the injectors too effectively...

PS. not ECV valve connected at present

Any further ideas? Thanks again all

James

Don't know what ECU you've got, but my MS runs the pump for a couple of seconds to prime the system, and then cuts it until it sees the engine turning over. Do you know that your ECU knows the engine is turning?

Yep, checked continuity from the starter wire to the ECU "STA" input which also fires the main starter relay....

But how does the ECU know it is actually turning over? Crank position sensor?

it has that feed from the starter motor, so it knows when it's being cranked....

You need to check that the pump relay is seeing power DURING cranking. Also check ( If you can in the brief time it runs on residual pressure) that the pump relay is either being energised from the ecu or is switching the negative ( as is the norm usually) to hold the relay in and power the pump.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Hi James,

Sorry to hear you're having fun (?) getting your motor running. Sadly I can't help with the problem you've got. It's one of of the few I've not seen.

I can however help you avoiding a future problem. On the K1/K2 if you short the clutch switch to earth permanently the motor goes into a 'safe' mode. Around 1000 rpm off the limiter and a sh1te performance. You need to use a relay on this.

Don't ask me how I know this please. Suffice to say that one of the two races we won while running in this condition were bloody hard work. Once sorted it was a flying machine in comparison.

HTH a bit,

Mike

Found the issue - tip sensor plug needed a 60k resistor over it to simulate the switch, don't believe everything the manual says!!

Thanks for the clutch tip, I'd heard about that one - also need to sort a gear position simulator...

James
