Performance headlight bulbs
What are everyones recommendations for some performance headlight bulb been looking at philips x-treme view and osram nightbreaker plus.

Ther are for my GTM Libra which has 5 3/4 round headlight units.

I have nightbreakers in my Merc.
Not much different on dipped beam but seem to be a bit better on main.
No substitite for xenons

Thoes xenons white things are crap - I could do better with a mag light!
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

The Osram Nightbreaker were good but they had problems with bulb life and changed the spec. Not tried the Nighbreaker Plus.

I know couple people that have opted for Xenon Conversions. Kits can be bought for £30 on ebay with ballast resistors etc.

From what i've seen/read HID conversions are Iffy at Best.
Personally I've tried "silver star" bulbs , which were pricey for what they were: a 15/20% increase over a pair of half dead old
OEM bulbs.
Complete waste of MY $$ And time basically. There's a lesson there Kids :-)
Undeterred :-) I retrofitted High Beam OEM bulbs into the low beam sockets.
Small mod involving the removal of a blocking tab on the high beam bulb.. took approx 15 secs work each.
Result is pretty impressive I now have decent quality Low beams.
Yess... still not the worlds' best head lights, but at $10 for the pair..?? for the best result I've yet had. Not too shabby

HID kits are not legal for retro fit unless you have a headlight self levelling system fitted and a headlight washer system.......
It is however not illegal to sell them so don't assume that just because you can get them off the shelf they will be legal for use.
Crappy headlights are almost always the problem of the headlight reflector/lens and not always bulbs......fitting the wrong sort of bulb where the
light element is in a different position from the bulbs designed for the lamp will often result in a brighter but rubbish light (poor beam pattern and
spread)
You might be better looking at different lights units as well as bulbs.
sometimes you are the pigeon, most of the time the statue.

In 2012 things are changing the MOT testers manual will have specific instructions on the requirements, no tester will let then through unless they
want VOSA to come down hard on them.
