A question for our auto electricians

I'd be grateful if someone could identify the Siemens component on the base of this Rover 75 interior fusebox and let me know its function. Pics attached. I think the black box is a relay but there is some circuitry associated with it.

Thank you

John

Is there a picture under the lid of what they all do ? There usually is.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

No, I got it from a scrapyard for my Triumph GT6 so no documentation. It is not as straightforward as I thought and has posed a number of questions. For example, I've spent a number of hours with a multi-meter and as yet have not identified any wires associated with the 30Amp fuses. I've yet to verify this but it does seem as if some wires that are live, cease to be live when a fuse is removed and then repolaced. I cannot be certain of this until I have tried it a number of times but my head is starting to hurt

Well i will wish you the best of luck and appologies I cant offer any help on that.

I guess you need to check the wiring quality next.

some of the 30 amp fuses could be the feeds to relays, meaning the wires may not come live unti the coil is activated. am sure you knew this anyway but thought it may be worth mentioning

Thank you Paul, that's very kind of you. I have downloaded a pdf file showing what the various relays and fuses do so there may be little more that the manual will tell us unless it shed light on the Siemens gadget. Providing it dosn't interact with the other fuses I can disregard it.

Daniel, my thought as well that there may be an internal connection within the box itself but there appears to be no continuity between the relay contacts and any of the 30Amp fuses so a bit of a mystery really.

I'll attack the job again when I'm fresh and make sure my connections are good.

Thanks once again to everybody who has replied.

John

Maybe try working backwards,

Start the car the pull the unit out. See what doe snot work!

Make sure you have no air bags though.

I need a few more relays than that one offers which means more fuses as well and of course there was the question of price. I paid under £5 for the Rover one.

bi22le keep up at the back there

Hi John I have just looked for my manual on disk but cant find it at the moment, I do have this link to an on-line version which shows all the electrical circuits if you sort through it http://en.rover-club.net/graphics/manuals/12/r75_body_electrics.pdf .It may be the one that you already have as I cant see any direct reference to the module you require info on.
If still stuck I will have a look and dig out the original Rover disk.

Paul, that's really kind of you. I appreciate the time you have taken on my behalf. I'll get stuck into it.

Best regards
