Electric connectors - only rubbish available

Been fitting my new Speedhut Rev counter and GPS Speedo but had to purchase insulated spade connectors and didn't realise what krap they are until I got home .

20 years ago when I wired up my Cobra the connectors extended to grip the insulation as well as the bared wire - now they only grip the bared wire so any good tug tends to either break the wire or pull it out of the friction joint. Why did they have to change a good design - guess we have the Chinese manufacturers to thank - and the price does not reflect the poor quality either and even worse it is all that is easily available. .

Bought a four way plug (Male and female) and when I assembled it and trial connected it I could not disconnect it without breaking it - another brilliant piece of Chinese design I warrant.

You brits and europeans really let us down by allowing your manufacturing base to die.

By the way both work brilliantly - it's good to have finally a speedo after driving for 20 years without one. Looking forward to finishing running in the new motor so I can test the 0 - 100 timer and the 1/4 mile timer on the speedo and the shift lights on the rev counter.

I still buy and use good quality crimp connectors and multi-plugs. Don't blame anyone else if you buy crap!

But it was these cheap crap alternatives that led to the good quality stuff dieing off as everyone buys the cheap stuff now.

So by buying cheap, it was infact you who allowed it to die

I am willing to pay for quality if it were available - just can't find it - not even at the better retailers. So don't blame me for the problem. Although I suppose if I was willing to drive 100 km or so to the other side of town and back and spend the better part of a day looking I might find a supplier for a few pounds worth of goods - but that's hardly a reasonable choice. It's just that most stores only stock the rubbish.

Perhaps rather than blaming Europe you should vent your frustration at your own country for putting up with being supplied cr*p? As has been said there's no problem buying decent connectors here!

Vehicle Wiring Products will probably ship to SA for you and supply some decent heatshrink insulated crimp terminals. Crimp them onto the wire (including an insulation crimp section for strength) then heatshrink the sleeve to give a nice tight moisture proof fit.
