MX5 Basic Wiring

I'm considering putting an early MX5 engine and box into a track day car...has anyone on here wired one up to run and work with either standard ecu or aftermarket. Obviously I'd like to use the standard engine loom if possible. I have no need for dials/lights etc just the engine to start and work properly, how simple is it. Also are there any immobiliser issues?

i did it on the exocet. it was a doddle as you can use the whole mazda loom and ecu easily

So I assume just use the whole engine loom and basically a live and earth to the ecu does that sound about right

pretty much. there are extra wires for things like the rev counter etc but it doesnt need any of them to run. you will have to retain the fues box with the fuel pump relays etc but again its all pretty easy to chase out.

be warned, like ashg, I also used the original loom in an exocet build, but before you cut ANY WIRES and I do mean any, get the engine running, and with it running, cut 1 wire at a time. the loom often uses obscure paths to ground. ( chassis ) and you cut out redundant wiring at your peril. At least with the engine ticking over you can quickly reconnect anything that causes the engine to stop
