Strip Fog Light?

Will a nice thin strip of say, a high level brake light be OK for MOT?

Chunky thing I have hanging down at the back is going to get in the way of the diffusing I'm knocking up.

If I leave about a 40~50mm gap between the bottom of the body and the diffuser (lets a bit air flow round the diff) would be ok to fill with a strip of stop leds?

I have a very similar one to that under my rear no plate, and have it wired up as a 3rd brake light
i have to put a proper fog light on for the mot, that i remove, and have a switch in he boot that turns off the 3rd brake light and makes it a fog, just for the plod really !

Looks good, is the strip light under the plate no good for MOT? What does the tester require?

My MOT guy, who is VERY HELPFULL at mot time, insists that this light will not pass the mot rules, i think on light intensity, even though 36 Led's seem a good deal brighter than one 21w bulb, so to pacify him, and placate any other more valid reasons to get an mot,

so i add that horrible thing on the offside, and have passed 2 mots like that, and hopefully another one next week!

not sure how they check it for MOT, think its just a case of making sure there is one, and its bright enough (similar brightness to a brake light)
IVA would be checking if its got an F marking on it. and would be making sure a 3rd brake light is no lower than the 2 normal brake lights. also, a fog light must not be able to act as a brake light.

I can't remember where i got mine from, but i'm using a led fog lamp from a manufacturer called LED autolamps. prices seem to be around the £30 mark though... i'm sure i paid about £25 inc delivery, but i can't remember where from...

this is it anyhow

might as well do it properly!

This is what the law says....

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/11/made

there is a requirement that there must not be any possibility of the brakes and fogs to be connected....
