Front Indicators and IVA

Hi All

I have a query regarding front indicators and IVA. I see on here quite a lot people using "IVA indicators" as in the standard square ones on stalks. Now I'm just about ready to fit mine and I have the small LED teardrop style indicators from Russbost.

Having read the IVA chapter 20 and 23 The only regs are that they are correctly positioned, have the correct visibility and flash correctly. Am I missing anything? Has anyone used the small led ones for IVA? or should I not risk them for the sake of 20 quid for a set of bigger ones?

cheers
Steve

Mine now has small Led indicators which dont really suit the car IMHO and dont suit the flasher relay too well but at least managed to pass the MOT the other week. The original build photos showed the typical chunky IVA compliant bike indicators which to me actually looked marginally better.

Does anyone know if theres anything in the vehicle construction and use rules that says we must have indicators that stand out on stalks ? Would it be breaking the law to flush mount indicators to the nosecone or to incorporate them in the headlamps as is the norm on many tin tops ?

The stalks are for getting the indicators to the correct position ie less than 400mm from the widest point. however that Is for IVA after IVA a lot of peoples indicators magically change, lose their stalks or even move completely.

Indeed IVA is one thing, life after IVA is another. I'm looking to find out what is actually road legal, it seems a better option to ask on here rather than waiting to see if i fail the next MOT or get pulled over for breaking the law...

As far as I can see in the MOT manual, the only things checked are there the correct number of lamps, they work and are not missing or insecure. Reading that within reason put em where you want.

Quotes from mot:

Note: The precise position of direction indicators is not part of the inspection, but check visually that the lamps are at about the same height and the same distance from each side of the vehicle.

Failure for:

missing, insecure, obviously incorrectly positioned or does not face to the front, rear or side as appropriate
