Car Radio

Maybe a stupid question but, will car radios be affected by digital broadcast changes now or in the future or does it only relate to tv pictures.

VHF /FM services are going to be closed and replaced by digital. You will be able ( can ) buy a digital head unit that well retransmit in the FM band so you can continue to use your existing radio. No idea of timescaale though.

I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

not quite. they are considering 2015, but government admit it may not be til 2018 when the switch starts.
as such no firm timescale has been set as of yet.

"Traditional FM radio was thrown a lifeline yesterday after a minister said that if it kept enough listeners it would not be switched off.
Radio chiefs want all sets to be digital by 2015, a move the Labour Government had agreed to.
But communications minister Ed Vaizey yesterday downgraded this to 'an aspiration' and said: 'We will not switchover until the vast majority of listeners have voluntarily adopted digital radio. 'We will not switch over to digital until digital coverage matches FM.'
The switch to digital radio tops the list of laws voters would like to see dropped, a survey has shown."

thats from 2010 right enough...

I can't receive DAB on my home radio at all, so I'm not surprised, what a waste of money that was.

It's funny, there was a q recently in the paper about tech going backwards - like no more supersonic flight etc, and digital radio seems to be that. Crap reception, loads of interference etc.

Just like medium wave used to be
