Caterham 7 125 Roadsport - Immobiliser issue (Sterling Excel)

Morning all!

First post! Sorry it had to be a gremlin!

I have been building a Roadsport 125 with my Dad and when we came to first fire up the engine (1.6 Sigma). We got. Nothing. Looks like the immobiliser is not disengaging.

Caterham have been unusually unhelpful in this instance (main fella we speak to is on hols) but they have suggested that the Sterling Excel immobiliser they use very rarely fails.

So, two questions to start out (as hoping someone may have some experience here)...

1. Where under the dash is the immobiliser located, please private message the location if known.

2. Could a bad earth cause this? Can we test by earthing directly to the battery neg terminal?

The immobiliser should disable when the tag is in proximity to the ignition barrel by showing a steady red light meaning you can start the engine. It currently just flashes merrily away meaning it is still immobilised.

Any help would be much appreciated. We are so close and will be gutted if Caterham have to complete as part of their post build check.

Thanks

Andy

You would be better on the Caterham forum with this question as it's a standard caterham feature.

The sterling excel comes with a stainless steel, unpainted cover plate the fits over the top and is bolted down. Its supposed to be fitted to a steel bulkhead. The unit itself only only has black wires coming out. Originally would have had coloured tags on it to help identify what goes where, but are cut off when fitted.
Finding out what does what is supposed to be difficult
Hope that helps locate it. I'd suspect the little circular antenna bit myself, or the tag isnt coded in right.

Mines still in a box in someone elses garage where it's been for a year now, so can't help much more than that

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

What does the led light do when you turn the ignition on? And then when you try to start it?

Found the box, took it off and took some paint off under the mounting where the earth goes.

It now disables

Thanks for the help all.

So was it you or your dad that originally fitted it?
Good to get it fixed as earth faults can be a pig to track down.

Does the engine fire up now? That's a big moment.
