melted toggle switch

cars melted a 25a toggle switch, not had this happen before, however it is the main fuel pump switch

i presume this needs to run through a relay and not just a toggle switch to stop this happening again or do i need to look further into the wiring

thanks

Was that DC or AC rated? AC switches can't take anywhere near the same current DC.

If the fuse on the fuel pump is less than 25A then I'd be checking the switch rating (DC current as above)

Relays are rated for DC so should be fine.

relay...that is the reason why the donor car had a relay....easy peasy to fit....
a quick and easy method to fit is to put it behind the dash where your switch is. Cut the wire that goes to the pump and put a spade connection on it connect this to pin 85 on a 4 or 5 pin relay and connect pin 86 to earth......take the other end of the cut wire (from the switch to pump...) and fit a spade terminal to it and fit to pin 87 on a 4 pin relay (and the same on a 5 pin NOT 87a!) pin 30 on the relay needs a power supply from a suitable place and it needs a 30A fuse........
should sort your problem.
