Wrong flasher unit ? possibly ?
Hi All,
Todays IVA job was to wire up the indicators, or so I thought.
I can't remember when I bought the flasher units, or where from, but I think I've got a problem.
One is marked "21w x 4" and the other "21w x 2 +5w".
Didn't get as far as the "x4" ( hazard ? ) as the "x2" only does an odd flash then stays on constant.
The indicators are as follows:-
Front - 21w normal bulb.
Side rep - small wattage bulb.
Rear - LED units.
The LED units have a resistor wired in, but I'm not sure on thinking about it which part of the light it's wired to.
Do I need a different flasher unit ? If so, what one ?
Do I need to check and possibly re-wire my back lights ?
Should I admit I'm more likely to be struck by lightning than get the wiring finished and working ?
Cheers in anticipation

alternative needed, I think

I'm sure someone can answer based on the numbers but wouldn't be easier to just test it....
However if you do need another one I'd suggest a solid state one as they work with all wattage bulb from tiny LED's to big standard ones
and will always go at the right speed.

Get a solid state relay and ditch the LED resistors

I agree with the previous suggestions.
Get a solid state flasher. No need for any resistors.
Mix and match LED and lamps.
Only downside is no rapid flash for failed lamp.
The Answer for everything, but never the last word....

Thanks for the advice.
Would this be suitable ? Do I need one for indicators and another for hazards ?
If not suitable can anyone recommend a different one (or two)
eBay Item

That's the unit I've had on my car for years.

You only need 1 for hazards and indicators but you need a dual switch for the hazzards to keep the left and right circuits seperate (otherwise 4 ways
will come on every time you indicate)

to test you could try standard bulbs.
edit, check the earth on the flasher relay

Many thanks everyone.
I've just ordered the one in my link. Should be here Friday.
Trouble is I'm waiting for a work delivery so today and tomorrow are my weekend.
Will be working Saturday and Sunday to make up.
O the joys of self employment.
Thanks again
