multi connector
I need a multi connector to connect the dashboard loom to the main car loom. Maplins sell both male and female 20 way ATX motherboard connectors (inc
pins) for a PC.
Nothing on the dash is going to be pulling large amps. Is the connector suitable ? Or will it melt ?
Better still they are only £1.29 per side ( obviously 1 male and 1 female required)
thanks

Proper automotive ones are cheaper and less fiddly to wire up
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

thanks Mark, I've looked and could only find a 15 way connector (I need 16 way - typical !) at :
http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/multicon/multicon.html
MNL15 for £5
anywhere else I could try.
The ATX ones are quite large (so shouldn't cause too any issues with wiring ) It was more the current rating I was worried about.
thanks

As everything on a dash is usually PCB, should be OK
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

i would guess that each pin is ok for 5 or so amps minimum. so if you are below that you should be fine.....

AMP Mate-N-Lok
Thats a mate n` loc type connector they are pretty much universal.
The AMP Mate-N-Lok wire-to-wire and wire-to-board pin and receptacle connector system delivers economical, yet reliable connection for applications
including vending machines, home appliances and computers.
This Tyco product features crimp snap-in contacts.
Locking devices are an integral part of the design, with built-in contact stabilisation and self-alignment mechanisms.
Dual beam contacts on 3mm spacing are available in 2-12 single row and 2-24 double row configurations.
Board mount versions are available in through hole or surface mount versions, and the PCB mount pin header assemblies can be vertical or right angle
styles.
Mate-N-Lok devices are rated at 250V, 5A maximum on 20 AWG wire.
Contact resistance is 20m2, insulation resistance is 1000Mohm, and the mating force is 6.67N per contact.
Recognised by UL, the devices have an operating temperature range of -40 to +105C.
You get a little straw type thing for removing the pins........when you stick em in the wrong
hole!!!wwwrs amp mate-n-loc
