stupid qu. #2

just in case you chaps hadnt already guessed by my flood of questions in this section, im at the wiring stage.
is it a SVA requirement to have sidelights - would a sealed dip/beam headlight nos suffice?
probably yet another stupid question - the second of many no doubt....
ive searched previous posts, and it seems i might need them, but just want to make sure.
thanks,
tom

The SVA manual refers to Front Position lamps, but I don't think it clearly states whether the Dipped beam would suffice, I think you would find it difficult to get your Dipped beam to meet the requirements of the SVA, so for all the hassle it is to add side light I would do it just to be safe

Regards

Scott

Even if you don't need them for SVA, I know you need them for MOT as mine failed the MOT without before I took it for the SVA.

Construction and Use regs require them and they are be checked by both MOT testers and traffic police.
Interestingly in the 1920s it wasn't a requirement and on most cars the front sidelamps went out when the headlamps were switched on. I think it came in at the same time as the requirement for two red rear lamps.

I think it would be best to have headlights with side lights fitted.

However,if you have the current SVA manual and you are still in doubt try this number.

01792 458888

It an SVA enquires number i have used during my build,i spoke with a guy called steve whitehart who was helpfull.
