Wiring time, Adding side lights.

It's time i started the wiring, after a visit to tiger yesterday i am 90% sure all of the wires are correctly labelled and id'd. The one thing i completely forgot to ask is regarding my side lights. My head light units have main beam and dip beam only, no side lights. As these were a present from the wife i'd like to keep and use them so can i add a sidelight bulb into them?

I'm thinking of Either a small 3 LED strip stuck to the inside of the reflector or drilling a hole for a bulb fitting. I'm rewiring the units to extend the wires and plug into the nose cone so doing it all at the same time would help.

Am i correct in thinking that DRL's aren't allowed to be used as side lights.

cheers guys

Yes, go with leds. Apart from head lights, all mine are leds. I thought DRL's have to go out when headlights are on? So would have thought using DRL's as sidelights would be ok?

DRLs should go out or dim when any lights other than main-beam are on I think (as they are too bright to be used normally in full or partial darkness). If they are e-marked and can dim, they can be used as sidelights.

a. the positional requirements of Table 1
b. the angles of visibility requirements of Table 1
27. They must extinguish automatically when headlamps are operated. (see note 6)

Note 6: Daytime running lamps. The lamps must be connected so that they switch off automatically when the headlamps are on. (Except for when the headlamps are flashed).

sides can be more or less anywhere.......they dont need to be part of the main lights

So if i go down the route of adding an LED in the headlight unit that is a "side light" not a DRL, it'll be ok at IVA?.

it works.

mocked up one of my lights today with a side light. I had some left over LED strip so I got soldering and here's the end result hooked up to a 12v supply.
