sierra light switches

Hi all, i have been trying now for about 2 weeks on and off to get my lights wired up correctly using a relay pack and loom supplied by Luego.

problem is that when i put sidelights on all is fine dash lighting comes on etc, however when i put the headlights on nothing happens. The problem must lie with getting power from the light stalk to the dim/dip stalk, i have followed the wiring diagram and nothing is working.

The lights work because i linked them up using the sidelight power, the relays all work as well as the dim/dip. I am baffled, rang Luego and no idea there, any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Do you have a switched earth or a switched live from the switch? I suspect it might be that you need to supply the relays with a live (igniton fed if you want, so dip/main beam goes out when ign switched off, but leaving sidelights on), and then the switch provides the relay earth for the lights to activate.

I think... It was some time ago when I did mine...

Dont just build it.....make it!

It's usually the brown and black wire joining the two sides together that causes the problem. If you don't have it connected there's no continuity from one to the other. It connects the 15's together on early switches or 56's on later. If later it also goes to dim dip relay earth.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

The Sierra lighting diagram is pretty tricky due to the dimdip lighting which they used on certain models. Chop out the dimdip circuit and wire direct - IIRC the sidelights give the headlight relay a positive feed thereby not allowing headlight without sidelights.

I got the lights working, but it is my indicators on my Luego that are causing a problem.

Have connected up according to the manual etc, but even with the key removed they are both (Right&Left) on all the time and not flashing!

Can't understand what I have done wrong.

U sure the flasher unit is working ok?
Do the flash ok when used individually? i.e left turn or right turn...?

Cheers

The headlamp flasher should work without any lights on. Take power to it from a permanent live.

Read Shaywez's post and the rest of the thread. This is what it started out as.

The flasher does not switch even when the stalk is moved to the left or right position.

I have connected it to the terminals 15, 49 and 49a as in the instructions, and have checked all my other connections so am confused!

I edited it Hornet.

Go back and read it and the rest of the thread. This was a reply to Shaywez who started the thread, not BMF who hijacked it with a totally different topic.

hi m8... i thought I'd add it incase anyone else needs it..
Not sure if different years of sierra switches make a difference.... but the following works on mine (1990).
At indicator stalk switch:
terminal 54 is a feed from the ignition switch (works indicators when ignition is on)
terminal H30 is the constant feed from fuse box (works hazards with ignition off)
terminal 49 is connected to flasher relay.
termianl 49a is from flasher relay
The treminal below 54 (cant remember number) is the right side wiring and the terminal above 49a is the left side.
the only other wire is from the flasher relay to earth.
From your post you look as if you have a wire missing..
Hope thats clear enough.... if not let me know.
Cheers
