Indicator top of wing
Hi guys
Just been reading Kitcar, and one of the features was a westfield build. The text quoted that you now need an indicator on the top of the front
wheel arch. Does anyone know about this?
If it is the case it's back to the wiring loom again. If it is correct has anyone done it, how do you run the wire safely from the arch and
avoid moving parts.
Cheers
Steve

the iva manual is very clear as to the placement/visibility/sight lines required for indicators.
maybe for most westies 'top of arch' is the only place suitable
but for those with innovation there's plenty of opportunity

They don't have to be on top of the wing... but the traditional position on the side panel or scuttle is obscured by the rear wing. As a result
they have to be mounted either high on the scuttle, screen frame, end of the mirrors*, front wing edge/top**. It's the downward angle thats
causes the issue (5deg I think). Most seem to be passing with them in the edge return of the front wings.
* note a lot of aftermarket mirrors with built in indicators don't meet the angles of visibility test.
** or even rear wing, though be careful of the max distance allowed from the front.

The problem with it on the wing is the wiring gets rotted away due to the wet days.

Sorry I thought thats what the OP meant.
Front indicator position just has to be withing the max/min height/width and angles of visibility requirements of the manual. No requirement for them
to be on the wing tops.

I seem to recall at least one person failing IVA for having front indicators on wheel arches as that one tester felt that when then the wheels were
turned the angles weren't met.

Manual covers that now and makes it clear viewing angles are only tested with wheels in straight ahead position.

By far the easiest way for IVA are little trailer side marker lights in the ends of your mirrors.
They have the added advantage of being easy to replace after IVA with "nice" mirrors and side indicators.
( Note to self. Must get mine on eBay before the garage spiders set up home in them. )
