Help... which ignition system have i got?
Hi all,
I'm after a bit of advice please...
I've got an ex locost race car with a 1.3 crossflow, which i've been using for trackways for the last year.
711m.6015.AA (Block Number)
BD14 - Engine number
It appears the electronic ignition system has now failed and so I need to replace it before next time out.
The only problem is, before ordering a replacement, I'm not sure exactly which coil, distributor I currently have, with me not building the car
from scratch.
If anybody could shed some light, it would be much appreciated, as I want to get back out on track ASAP!!!
Please see pictures below for reference:
(If I've attached the correctly!)

dont be confused about the design of the coil. somebody used a more modern coil, instead the classical cylindricla one. but the function is
identical.
dizzy, even i have never seen a blue rotor, looks like a lucas-design.
what is the problem with your ignition?
parts look quite new. those hall-effect pick-up types work or they dont work. there is nothing inbetween. if it doesnt work its most lickly the
hall-senor which has given up.
it cannot be repaired it needs to be changed.
not sure of the "common" hall-effect systems could be used also for your dizzy:

if you want to be on the safe side buy a complete new 43D dizzy:

Thanks for your reply.
The engine is hard to start initially, but when started it seems to run ok, although it tents to blip intermittently, then once warm it stumbles,
stalls then is very hard to restart.
You can see when watching the rev counter, it will sit at approx 950rpm then jump up to 1500/2000 then down to 400 then back up to 900. All very
quickly.
The basics, i.e fuel, spark etc are all fine.
Thanks,

That seems hugely unlikely unless it was wired incorrectly. The RVI tachometers don't tend to work with electronic ignitions, but there is
nothing inside them that could damage an ignition circuit. The sense wires are just a short turn of wire on a current transformer internally, no
active components are connected to it.
OP,
aseriesspares.co.uk appears to seel the
system you have fitted, though I couldn't see the actual manufacturer listed.

look...i have installed several RVI tachos in combi with electronic igntion...some worked (and still work until today), most didnt work and i had it 2
times where the longterm use of an RVI on an hall-effect pick-ip dizzy finally killed the hall-effect sensor.

Stealth - Sparkrite
Hi all,
Has anybody purchased one of the below from Ebay at all?
I was just wondering on the quality as I've not heard of the make before.
Thanks

Did you get to the bottom of this? I race a Locost the same as yours, and the xflows aren't overly fussy with ignition. Assuming you've
given it a couple of seconds for the elec fuel pump to prime the carb with fuel, then 3 stabs of the throttle to squirt some petrol in (as
there's no choke) and mine will fire up nearly always first time. What is your ignition timing set to at idle? Anywhere between 10-16 degrees
advance is good enough. I run 36 degrees max advance (~4500rpm) and depending on what advance the distributor has, that sets the idle advance.
I'd put a timing gun on and watch the timing, see if it alters wildly when it jumps up in revs. My money would be more on fueling than ignition
with your symptoms, potentially a small air leak weakening the mixture, or a jet blockage. Any crap in carb bowl?
Shaun.
