Replacing an 085 battery with an 063

I need a new battery for my MK Indy (919cc Blade) as mine has died, but nowhere near me has an 085 type with the square terminals in stock.

One place has suggested an 063 type battery with a square terminal conversion kit on it.

Would this work OK? I'm rubbish with batteries! Just want to check it will be OK before I pay what will undoubtedly be over the odds for a battery!

Thanks.

Not an expert on battery sizes from the numbers you quote, but basically those two are the same physical size battery?

As that's the only concern on a kit car, will it fit in your current holder/box/position?

Thanks, but I'm gonna stick with a car type battery anyway.

Yes it'll work fine with converter terminals and dimensions of those 2 are the same.

Flag terminal batteries have virtually disapeared on tintops so little stock available generally.

I went through a similar route, from flat Ford-style terminals to the normal round posts. I found it easier to replace the car's connectors entirely - the end result is far more reliable than trying to use a converter kit, which would result in one more electrical junction to corrode and fail.

It's short-term faff to swap the connectors, but much more reliable afterwards. I used good-quality snap-on/off connectors that mean that I can connect or disconnect the battery in seconds, which is very useful when I've fiddling with the car's electrics.

I use an Oddessy PC680 to start and run the 1.8 MX5 engine. So small I built it into the electrical box - clamp the lid on and nice and water resistant for the 'rail

Got it from Tayna.co.uk

So, I bought the 063 from the motor factors down the road and they threw in the adapters. Fitted it. Went to my MOT this afternoon and the car passed!!!!

Success!

I am planning to convert the cars wiring to the snap on connectors. Thanks everyone for your help!

Chris.
