Zetec starter
I am in the market for a new starter after I had a disaster
Is it the LR707 I need?
2L Zetec silvertop phaze2
1.8 Zetec flywheel
Type 9 box
Tiger ERA sump
My old starter I had to make an adapter as the throw was wrong
(it moved the starter about 10mm further from the flywheel)
Not sure what the starter was off originally I was working at a scrapyard at the time and just found one that looked like it may work, which it did
till I killed it with brute force
only marking I can find is "337" stamped into an ear and some markings on the solenoid can
(either way - would rather do away with the adapter thingy as it makes the job of fitting and removal that bit more complex)
Ping starterman

looks like you have a pinto starter. the zetec flywheel is 16mm closer to the block than a pinto one hence why you needed the spacer.
Starters that will work without a spacer :- sierra 1.8 cvh/ sierra 2.0l dohc/ granada 2.0 dohc /scorpio 2.3l dohc / lrs707
I've used the ford scopio 2.3 1.4kw bosh starter as it was the smallest high torque one i could get ,
They all have different body widths and can have the solenoid on top or the bottom , so best to go to your local starter refurb place and take yours
with you. They could also repair the one you have , changing the solenoid is pretty simple.

I think there are a couple of places that do starter and alternator rebuilds not too far away
(both in opposite directions though)
Will give em both a shout tomorrow and see what can be done, or see if they have a lrs707 on the shelf

I just bought this one:
Link
I have a Zetec and type 9.
Works great.
You are welcome to have my old one for spares if it would help - still works, but struggles occasionally when hot

Was it a zetec 1.8 flywheel?
Have dropped old starter off at a rebuilder's and awaiting his verdict

No, CVH flywheel, but it is exactly the same dimensions, just a lot lighter.

The rebuild guy was useless and complete waste of the day- and 2 hours travel time
Gone and ordered one from that link, spoke to the seller and he had one in stock (so no wait time) and he said I should get it by Thurs
so cheers for that

Yes, he said they use a courier for them
I got my new brake master cyl from the same seller and it arrived nice and quick
Fingers crossed it lands before the mrs gets back from holidays - as I will loose the kitchen a few hours before she gets back (allowing time to clean
up the mess)
dash is still in there along with the wiring that I need to get sorted and all the tools to save having to empty the garage to get to them
Wanted it back on the road and legal by the time they got home, but looking like it is going to be a tight race

Car all ready (bar starter motor)
It just arrived by courier ....and the box says it it an STM618, as does the invoice
However the contents of the box has a shiny new STM1374 inside....and is very obviously not for a Zetec
Have called them, they are going to call me back....here we go again
What a saga....

Strangely exactly the same thing happened to me. They said it was a one off mistake by the manufacturers and put it right very quickly. Looks like
they have a batch of incorrectly packaged starters.
As I said they sorted it out quick so if my experience is anything to go by you should be fine

Yep same excuse
I wonder if they left the wrong one in the box you returned and then shipped it to me ..LOL
I may pop a note in the box, see how far this starter can travel - like a geocache travel companion
Thing is - I didn't look at the starter - and placed its nose into the hole before it clicked that something was very very wrong
Hope the replacement arrives soon
Is the solenoid on a ring terminal or a push on?
Might as well get that side sorted if it needs doing - currently on a push on fitting (M5 or m6 threaded?)
Not sure I have any ring terminals that are that beefy

Its a ring terminal same as on the Sierra my original starter came off.

cheers for that
The push on terminal may go onto the stud, will wait to see when it lands
It certainly wore a sierra starter when it had a pinto in it, so fingers crossed it will work without too much faffing

Starter arrived today (about 2pm)
Bolted it on, didn't have to remake any terminals (the push on start wire terminal just pushes on and makes good contact)
Car started on the button, no dramas, engine spins up nice and fast
Rang round to see if I could get a last minute MOT, but none available today or tomorrow at anywhere I tried
Booked in for after work Monday
I guess it gives me a chance for a last min double check over of everything I have disturbed tomorrow
Pads and shoes are brand new - so hoping they will be OK without being bedded in
Excited and a bit nervous as it has been a long time since I last drove it
Fingers crossed I haven't overlooked anything
