Help - Rover V8 Alternator

I have a SD1 engine, with a leaking short nose water pump, and P6 Crank Pulley, and a P6 Ally mounting bracket (Top right of engine looking from Drivers seat).

Now the crank and waterpump align nicely. However, out of the 4 alternators I have stockpiled, NONE align properly.

Please can you let me know what Make / Model Alternator you have fitted, and if possible what part number for the alternator pulley, or what you did / used to get it to fit. Pictures would be even more welcome.

I need to get a new Alternator / pulley, but dont know what to get and the Rover dealer didnt want to know today when I rang.
Thanks in advance

Geoff,
That's wierd since I have exactly the same setup (ie. P6 pump, crank pulley and alternator bracket) and everything lines up fine. You've not put your water pump pulley on the wrong way around have you? (I know, you said your crank pulley lined up fine so this is unlikely but maybe the crank pulley isn't fully seated or something)

I too have several alternators lying around and I have tried a couple of them in place with no apparent alignments problems. The one I am currently using is an AC Delco alternator from a Vauxhall of some sort but a Lucas (A127 IIRC) also fitted fine.

Let me know if you need me to take some photo's or measurements of my setup for comparison.

Cheers,
Craig.

Crank pulley and water pump align nicely. Unless there is a spacer that I dont have on the crank, and I hvae the water pump pulley on back to front!.

Water pump pulley is on so the V is towards the engine (mostly). If I put it on the other way round I would need a spacer under the cranl pulley. and there wasnt one when I took it off the engine.

I am sure I just need the right Alternator.

Unipart Spares man was not that helpful.
Will be trying other dealers today... but part No's would be most helpful.
