changing from stalks to switches.

can anyone help, i need to change from standard sierra stalks to toggle switches. i dont have a tester and if i did, im not sure i could use it correctly! anybody know what each coloured wire relates too? im really quite stuck so any help would be appreciated. car is off the run (in great weather) as removable boss catches stalks and does not latch on, a bit dodgy. thanks.

it will be harder than you might think - the sierra switches arent just simple on off switches. For instance, they allow the full beam to be flashed at anytime but only left on if the headlights are on. This is done via an alternate earth path. Good luck!

it's technically feasible, but wouldn't fancy it myself.

if you can give me some sort of idea of year of the loom, and what you want to run, wipers yay/nay etc i can reference the haynes for you and get back.

I'm a time served auto electrician and wouldn't fancy the job. I have to ask... why? They look fine on my car.

Surely it cant be that hard to wire up. I take all of my ideas from Mac#1 as im building one of their high quality specialist sports replicas (). They fit the savage switches in their turnkey cars and a toggle switch for the indicators with no apparent problems. The column area is totally clear and looks great. This also gives the kindof advantage that no-one can see Sierra bits so dont know what they are based on.

I started with the head/indicator stalk (no wipers) but decided to 'switch' to panel-mounted controls.
I've used a Cavalier(?) rotary switch. The knob also has a push-pull action which activates a change-over relay for main/dip.
Otherwise I've used the normal Sierra relays for switching the power, but the switch and the c/o relay are on the live side; normal Sierra stalk works on the ground side.
The only downside is no headlight flash (yet).

For the indicators I've got an electric window switch which I'll rig up with self-latching relays.

stalks to switches

thought it would be easy for someone with a bit of knowledge ( not me ). 2 reasons, the removable boss will not lock properly as it hits the stalk housing, also, when i cut off the unused wiper stalk, it stopped headlight and fog light working. strange. the sierra was a g reg, cheers for all advice.
