Which speed sensor for VDO white cockpit series?

I'm looking for a speed sensor for my VDO white cockpit series speedometer. I tried to order one from Demon Tweeks, but their reaction was:"VDO importers have not heard of a speed sensor for VDO speedo". If that is so: how can it work without one then??

Anyway, the manual says that it can be used with several different sensors, so I'm not too worried. Demon Tweeks do sell speed sensors; one magnetic one for Revotec gauges, one Smiths sensor (doesn't has more info than that it's M16x80), and one "inductive" Smiths sensor. Anyone know which one I should go for? The M16x80 Smiths item is the cheapest.

Cheers,
Marcel

What gearbox have you? If it's a MT75 you can fit a speed sensor to that or it might have one fitted.

Thats the same as my westfield cockpit vision speedo and dials(mine have the black faces).

Use the one westfield sell - its a chunky m10 unit which fits under the prop or driveshaft and picks up off the yokes or bolts. Its on the westifield website and is no more expensive than buying one from anywhere else.

I had a magnetic sensor which picked up off magnets glued to the prop which was crap.

Hope that helps

Peter.

Lowtension do the VDO speed sensor for their gauges but I just went to the scrappie to try to find a granada sensor from a type nine box which would have worked. None there so I got a mondeo sensor which lives half way up the speedo cable for a fiver and it works fine grafted onto the original sierra cable from my type nine box. Sits behind the dash.
