Self Centering
Hi
Close to SVA now and have just been getting the steering to self centre.
I have managed to get it to start to centre from about 10-15 mph is this acceptable for SVA.
Any comments would be appreiciated.

the most common tricks are loads of toe out, and low tyre pressures.

Keith - the way the SVA man test's it...
Put car steering on full r/h lock - lets go of wheel whilst at say 10-15 mph if it shows a tendency to return to centre on full r/h and l/h lock it
will pass.
As Ray say's 2 degrees toe-out is normally enough for this to apply...

On my test, this was one of the few things he challenged me about. In the end I messed about with the track rod ends etc to no avail. He said he
wasn't going to fail the car for that alone and put it down to the newness of the balljoints etc and that everything was so tight.
I am not saying your tester will be as reasonable, but its always a last ditch explanation to put up if all else fails.
Good luck when the test comes around, its not that bad. I believe if the tester gets the impression that you have made a genuine attempt to comply
with the regs then you are halfway there. So long as it is not a safety issue they seem to show a bit of decency. Remember to play up to the tester
and make them feel like you really value their opinion etc etc.

Had our test today and he didn't put it on full lock only about 1 3rd to 1/2 lock at 15 to 20 mph and required that it attempted to self centre.
Mine didn't, dropped the tyre pressures to 15 psi and away she went self centred as sweet as a nut. And i know for a fact that my tracking was
all over the place as i had been messing with it to get it to self centre. Hope this helps

Failed yesterday on the same thing :-(
My tester sugested to try wheels with another offset. What wheels are you guys using (what offset) and what tire size?
I have 205/50R15, 15mm offset)
