Sierra Wiring - ignition coil
Has anyone had problems with their sierrra wiring looms? Just finished the engine- tried to start it- chug chug chug - no spark. I've checked
the coil and the is a small voltage across so i think it must be the relay. No idea where it is other than one of the black boxes in the fuse box-
haynes is useless on this point - anyone have any idea? 1989 1.8 sierra.
In edinburgh by the way so out the usual cluster of builders.
Cheers,
Jamie

1.8 CVH or Pinto?
Not much help but, if it's the Pinto then there certainly isn't a relay in my ignition setup!
Just amp, coil and dizzy.
Cheers,
James

what is the voltage on the coil?
Are you checking the voltage when turning the engine over?
Do you ahve the right type coil?
My guess is the sierra has abllast resistor so you need the corresponding coild plus the cicuit to switch it out when cranking should be there. When
ignition is on, voltage should be about 9 V; coil proimary reistance 1.5 ohm.
In non ballast, then voltage is 12 V and resistance 3 ohm.
