how close wires to exhaust

Wondering what the consensus is on how close i can put wires to my exhaust & how much closer i can get them if i wrap the exhaust?

With the crossflow and westfield manifold i think i've got about 2" gap between the top chassis rail and the exhaust. I'm sure that will melt the wires.

Don't forget you can also wrap the loom in alluminium tape to prevent heat damage.

I find it very hard to believe you cannot find another route for the wires so that you feel they have to go so close to the exhaust. I don't trust the wrap and insulation stuff - what will happpen damage wise and cost wise should the insulation melt and the wires short to each other or to the chassis? That should desice the rout you take to address the problem.

You can get high temperature insulated wire if you really really insist......

I like the way you're thinking! Bith my Lr and F27 have wiring down one side and bracnch off to headlamps/other stuff infront of the radiator so miss the exhaust entirely, a pain if your look doesnlt do that but you'll only wire it once andthen forget.

I don't think I'd like to see wires closer than 6" to the exhaust, at least near the engine where it's hottest. The results of a meltdown could be catastrophic - engine room fire, at least...I've seen total-loss fires from this
