Battery Location
Has anyone passed SVA with thier battery located just in front of the driver's footwell firewall?
This seems a tempting place for me to locate my battery as I am not using floor mounted pedals.
I see the advantages being that it keeps the battery low and away from the exhaust manifold heat (xflow installation) and also provides some nice
solid steel chassis to mount it to.
All comments welcomed.

IFAIK you can - but it needs another firewall. This has been discussed previously but it was a while ago.
We put ours in front of the engine - behind the radiator, this keeps the COG low and cetral but obviously will get hit by heat being picked up through
the radiator - though this can be deflected out.
There is no denying it's a dilemma

How about infront of the passenger footwell in the engine bay?.
It depends on what space you have available, and the size of the battery.
In the event of an accident or a roll over, you dont want to wash yourself in Sulphuric Acid.
Hence DONT put it anywhere in the cab area unless its in its own sealed box and bolted down.
The Box would then need to be vented to the outside.
It would probably fail the SVA in the Cab unless sealed off from the people in the cab.
Rember that the battery gasses off Sulhuric Acid gas, and Hydrogen, and oxygen. Not a good combination.
ie from the formula of the acid - H2So4, 2 parts Hydrogen, 1 part Sulphur, and 4 parts oxygen if you were to break it into its component elements.
Thats not quantative, but chemically speaking!

The only problem with putting the weight so far forward is the front-rear weight ratio. i putting it in front of the passenger footwell would be best
(depending on actual space) you can put in a heat shield to protect from the zorst.
What about using one of the smaller batteries mentioned on a recent thread? you could put these anywhere without altering the CofG much.

Why does nobody put it in the back of the car with long cables to the front? It would use up some space there and help weight distribution!

I put mine in front of scuttle on passenger side - on a horizontal plastic panel. Passed SVA with no comments, they just checked it was secure.

Do don't have to pass a SVA test, but I did put my battery just in front of the master cylinders. I works perfect for a BEC.
I think if a small BEC battery is mounted in the rear of the car, the cable alone will double the weight of the battery.
