If its fitted it must be working.
You do NOT need a reversing light for the SVA.

No not a requirement to have it but if its there it MUST work....probably worth putting in a second fog lamp, as you say....but remember and check the
heights and angles etc as both will count.....Oli.

Sorry to contradict everyone, but my reversing light wasn't working during my SVA and although the examiner mentioned it, he said it
didn't matter as it wasn't required.

Another possibility is to mend it!
If you can burrow down the tunnel check you have 12 volts at the switch. If access is reasonable you can even check the switch with a meter. See if
you get 12v at the light when switch is operated with ignition on. Check the bulb isnt blown and has a good earth. Fuse?

what gearbox is it?
mine too wasn't working but a dig in the tranmission tunnel showed the wire fell off the switch.
have you done the obvious like check the bulb, power to the bulb, put the stick in reverse, checked the reverse switch, check power to the revesrse
switch, test it with ignition on
there is only a limited number of possibilities of what could be wrong.
I wouldn't fit a second fog lamp but fix the reverse - if not possible before SVA, then to play it safe, remove it and blank off with grommets
to fix it later ... or not as the case may be.
