HEATSINK INSULATION PRODUCT NAME??
Need an electronics man overhere to name for me the rs component wich is the plastic stuff wich you can put between a component and the heatsink to
overcome that the heatsink is positive etc. etc.
anyone on this one?

I've also come across plastic ones (ptfe?) but mica was recommended to me as being better by an engineer I respect.

I thought Mica in the first place but I would'nt describe it plastic, we'll see?

Yes, if your heart is set on the plastic type you can buy sheets from RS to make any shape you want.
They don't say what it's made of except it's Silicon impregnated.

The big name in this gear is Bergquist, have a trawl round their website. A lot of the stuff is "one time thermoplastic" so 1st time it
gets hot it "runs into the gaps" and the thermal resistance drops right off.

The generic name is "Thermal interface material"
The traditional material is mica, used with thermaly conductive grease. Horrible messy white stuff that gets everywhere, and the mica is very
brittle.
The modern alternative is a silicon pad loaded with thermaly conductive particles.
The stuff that Bob mentioned is often refered to as "phase change" material, the pads used on CPU heatsinks are often made from this.

imagine i have a big heatsink
where many fets are on.
but i need to put a shottky on!
because the heatsink is VDD (12volts) connected to the fets.
and the shottky is going between ground and motor positive but it still gets hot.
i need to connect it to the heatsink i need the mica sheet pass the heat on but to isolate my chip.
i use the pin in this case instead of the heatsink of the component.

i will also need a kind of bolt ring to seperate it..

SADLY that it costs 50euro cents in spain!! and postage is 7,5euro!
