From what little i can find in 5 mins, changing from injection with a distributor to carbs will make little difference in the spark area, if you have modified head, cam etc, then you have to alter/increase the idle advance, 12 - 14 deg standard up to 18 - 20 deg for a full race job.
Ignition advance should be all in, thats 36 to 38 deg at about 3,500 rpm.
The vacuum advance adds 10 to 15 deg when cruising.

one bit of usefull info but only if you can find one is that the 1600GT Motorcraft distributor has a usefull quicker initial advance curve and is good for cams with upto 300 deg advance.

will add a link to How to modify a distributor.

modify distributor

You can stick with the dizzy...............

................ but why would you?

Unless its for race regs (and what regs let you go injection but no EFi?)....

Most systems that do fuel injection will also do ignition... So why not do it????

Some injected pintos had no mechanical advance on the distributor, it was handled by the ECU , so it is worth checking that yours does have mech advance built into the dizzy. If so it should be ok to use.

As paul says if your EFi pinto has the hall effect dizzy then you cannot use that. Quick way to check is by looking at the plug on the dizzy. The hall effect has a plug integral to the dizzy body and 4 connections. The dizzy you need has a plug with 3 connections that is on the end of a 3 wire lead.

The 4 wire type were used on the later pinto's and then on dohc's etc and are controlled by the ECU. The other one is known as the earlier electronic and is controlled by the amplifier so is far easier to transplant. There is a similar lnk with more details been posted recently. After that try doing a search cos Bob and james have posted pictures and wiring diagrams before (maybe 18 months ago).

HTH,
Darren.
