Any Electricians out there....help please
Guys
Need some direction...
I am removing the Sierra Controls from the Avon, mostly i think i have figured out how the replacement switches should work, but need a little help to
finish...
I dont know how best to turn on and off the dip/main beam
On my diagram it shows a switch that is normaly closed, and then will flick to Main Beam when depressed..
Questions I have are , how do i do this when i run lightweight switches on the steering wheel??
Not sure how to connect the 4 pin realy for the 'flash' and i cant see a 4pin realy to flick between dip and main...does a 5pin realy relay
work in this situation?

Hi
we used a 5 blade changeover relay for your ??? part. Diagram should be below
Think in your case the blue should go to 30 , blue / red to 87a, blue / white to 87 then your relay activation circuit bit (low current live full beam
switch and earth etc ) to 85 and 86, then use another 4 pin relay and switch for flash, but probably worth checking diagram again before you connect
anything up - there is probably a way to use a single switch.
I can't quite remember how we did the separate flash (without headlights on). I think we just used the separate relay to full beam powered from
an ignition live which could be operated independently from the headlights to flash. IIRC I then somehow wired it so that if both headlights and full
beam are on, it would trigger the changeover relay.
Hope that makes some sense

Your diagram shows a switch that selects either side lights or dipped beam.
The switch should select side lights or dipped beam plus side lights together.
The way you show it wired means that the side lights go off when on dipped beam

Hi being as my previous explanation was a bit vague, I think we did something like this. Would this arrangement work OK?
This uses a 2 normal relays and a 5 blade changeover relay to switch the earth of the low current side preventing dipped beam from working when full
beam is active.
It's probably worth checking the terminal numbers since I may have made a mistake.

If your removing your sierra switches you could wire like this, see attached
ahhhh!! Just spotted error in this drawing, not got time to ammend right now, will repost later today.

Hi,
Just spotted an error in my diagram updated here.
It's also probably not a good idea to feed all the circuits from the same live wire - just drawn like that to keep things simple

I've been playing around today....
I can get the side lights working
I can get the Dip beam to dip..
I can get the main lights to flash momentarily.
But if i want to flick the relay from dip to main beam....i cant ....arrrhhh
Somethings not right....anyone spot the error?

Ed i dont understand the need for a 3rd relay, and then not use some points on the 5 pin relay...
help

i bet you have a sierra column and havent left the wire between the two switches that crosses an earth from one side to the other. Main flash uses a
different earth to main perminant. 
oops, i shouldve read the thread first  thats the symptoms though, guaranteed related to that.

The 5 pin relay acts to disable the 4 pin dipped beam relay when full beam are on since having both on at the same sime can damage the bulb.
The relay works by when activated it switches the low current earth for the dipped beam relay to nothing (the pin left unconnected) effectively
breaking the low current circult.

Yes, the switch for perminant full beam (left side) earths through the light switch (right side) hence only works when dipped beam is on, not side
lights. The flash however uses the earth on the left switches so it works any time.
