Pop-up headlights

I had a great idea (doesn't happen very often), has anyone tried pop-up headlights on a locost?
My idea was to have the lights retract into the nosecone area, and pop out when they are switched on (i think we all know the principle ).
The great thing is that if it is possible, the car would look like a locost racer with no lights in the daytime and of course, better fuel consumption.

Aren't the pop up mechanisms quite heavy? You'ld also need to re-inforce the nosecone area quite a bit.....

Very impractical!! I love it!! Go for it

I'm not entirely sure about this, but I think that there has to be a minimum distance between each headlamp, and between the headlamps and the outside edge of the car - I think if you put two lamps inside the nose cone they'd pretty much be touching.....

If you're already SVA'd you might get away with it of course....

pretty sure vinny1275 is on the money here - you would need to make a mcuh wider nose cone.

inevitably one of the motors will seize break and you end up with one of the lamps up permanently; seems a lot of effort for little retrun.

you a better of having inbuilt non popabley lamps like onf e-type jag.

I know what you mean, they would swing outwards revolving around a (theoretical) Y axis - you could get clever and use the piece you have removed from the nosecone, fix it onto the headlight, so that when it's closed it looks like a normal nosecone, and nobody cares what it looks like open!

Any idea is doable if you are willing to put in the time and effort to make it work.

The only problem I can see is finding the space in the nose. Its pretty tight in there, especially if you want a decent sized rad, you'll find out what I mean when you get that far

Mine are manual only though!
I have to undo a panel and remove a couple of wing nuts to stow them away.
Makes the car look better though.

I was toying with this idea as I'm in the process of making a new bonnet anyway.

Was thinking of four lights (2 dipped, 2 main) with the dipped permanently on show (to prevent the need for speedy flashes) with the main coming out when sidelights turned on.

Also thought about pop out, so whole light hidden.

However, given the length of time the changes I am making have taken, I'm just going to get some smaller lihts and be done with it.
