impact fuel cut off switch
i have seen strapped i the back of some se7ens, a cylindrical bit of kit that i have been told will shut the fuel off in the event of an impact. Is
this limited to a rear impact or any impact? what car can they be sourced from and how do you reset it after an impact (not that i am planning to have
a crash!)
Cheers

What you describe sounds a bit weird!
However, Any car with EFI - including mine - has an impact switch.
Its a little black block with a plunger and a steel ball in it. The ball is held by a magnet, if the car hits summat, the ball falls of the magnet
which opens a switch. The plunger resets it.
I got mine from my E reg granada donor, and its fitted IIRC right at the back by the bumper, adjacent to the fuel pump.
You wire it into the fuel pump RELAY feed. I dont think it carries the 20A or so fused line to the pump directly.
Mount it towards the rear of your car on something solid so it carries impact force well.

Any old shape Rover 2 or 400 has them and the fuel cut off circiut is very simple using the oil pressure switch to control it.

The metro turbo also used the oil switch.
However, the system relies on the engine stalling to create no oil pressure which stops the pump.
When you start the car you have just this situation. So, you need the oil switch wired into some electronics that allows the pump to work prior to
starting with no oil pressure, but not afterwards.
This perhaps could be done with a relay from the starter motor feed.
However, its simple to use an impact switch in the relay feed thats already present to the pump.

its possibly not sva. but in a crash, when the fuel line ruptures, do you want to be waiting to be cut out of the wreck in a pool of petrol increasing
in size by about a gallon a minute cos the efi is still pumping away?
Your choice ....
