Help identifying ignition amplifier and distributor
Hi All
My friend asked me to pop over to help him fit his Lumenition kit to his Mark 2 rally car (historic). One quick look at his distributor told me it was
already contactless so we hunted the ignition box down.
The photo shows what we found. Can anybody identify this and what it comes from as he wants to get a spare. Are there any reasons for changing this to
Lumenition?
Regards
Wyn

Hi,
Is it pinto powered then?
Looks like the original sierra electronic ignition, if so it will probably be more reliable than lumenition.

Thats the original electronic module as fitted to early sierras. Think it was called the ESC (electronic spark control).
If its working ok, leave it alone unless there is a very good reason for fitting the lumention kit.

Thanks guys
Yes - Pinto - original RS2000 but heavily modified.
I'll tell him to get a spare and leave it well alone!

If its heavily modded and he wants an upgrade, speak to H&H ignition solutions who will provide him with a complete electronic ignition system,
set up to the spec of his engine. That will give him the right amount of advance and the correct curve. Probably see some decent power/torque gains
too.

Bought my set up for my pinto from there. Very simple (amp on side of dizzy). Complete system, including dry coil and recon dizzy (no exchange was
£210 delivered, all set up to suit the engine.

Motocraft inductive amplifier (six wire) from early 1.6 or 2.0L sierra. Goes with a Bosch inductive dizzy with vacuum unit on the side and a three
wire plug (one earth and two to the amp). Lose the vacuum unit and fix the baseplate with twin sidedraughts.

Thanks Guys
flak monkey - he's limited by the regs on what he's allowed to do but he is allowed to fit Lumenition!
Dusty - that's exactly what he's got - the distributor has no vacuum and has had the baseplate locked.
Thanks

Im sure lumenition will only be of use to convert from points to electronic, already achieved by using early sierra inductive. After that the H&H
that flak talks about will have a modded advance curve.
Only reason id change sierra standard is to go for megajolt but id guess that is a no no on the historics.
