Correct me if i'm wrong but I thought all exterior lights had to be 'e' marked?

Mine were not e marked. I think it is a case of "giving equivalent performance to an e marked light"

Hard to prove with front and rear lamps, but side repeaters just have to light up really!

Definitely not a requirement - they just need to be right for the job. In reality, if they look good and are bright enough then you won't have any problems.
