Mega Jolt Problem

My engine now starts and goes but I cannot connect to the MJLJ unit with my laptop.

The configurator won't open, windows tells me there was aprblem opening it and has to close.

The Tunebat thingy cannot see my com port! I've set the com port to the correct settings but it comes up with unable to recognise com port. It was working before.

Any suggestions please? MJLJ V3.0 works fine on my base pc but I can't get the car in the kitchen.

Which configurater is the best for setting up and changing maps and stuff??

Cheers,
Steve

Does the configurator software match the firmware in the MJ unit? Version 3.2.1 is the latest, but both ends need to match (some version combinations work, but I don't know which).

Otherwise, are you using a USB-serial port? Some are known not to work - it's a problem Brent Picasso has been trying to sort - v3.2.1 is better than earlier versions.

Lastly, electrical noise can cause problems when the engine's running...

Have you tried the MJ standard comms tests?

Just started with an old V2 Megajolt and a Mj V3 configurator, once i set the buad rate to 4800 and set the com port to COM 1 using a cheap serial to RS232 adaptor it found it.
I set up the cable left the laptop on, took it outside and conected RS232 to the megajolt, opened the software, turned on the ignition, Megajolt should Ping the software and software should respond.

You can load different versions of the Megajolt tune software and try them independantly, just make sure you have configured the software to the right com port, i think it defaults to Comm port 1.

You said you have trouble with the software, uninstal and reinstall it again, you won't get it working if its not installed properly. The version 2 tuner needs very spesific loading to be done with Java script put preciselly in the right place, the V3 configurator, which i have been using, is a doddle.

I couldnt get the Java config to run either so downloaded the latest config from Brents file and it worked well.

The only other thing i did was to run the brays terminal program to check the comm prots were set up ok. I posted a link to a download for this.

Mine works with USB via an adaptor OK now but i had horrendous problems using the old config program.

Dont bother trying to run the older Java type configaration software , use the V3.0- onwards version, some Usb converters can be difficult to get working but the Maplins one seems to work for most people, you need to find it in the system folder on you PC and determine which port it is connected to then set up the config software to suit.

Thanks for all the advice chaps. It seems I may have virus on my laptop thats holding the comm port open.

I get a message along these lines...

mjlj.exe has encountered a problem and has to close.

When I look at the technical report its just a load of characters. Nothing to tell me whats wrong.

I've dragged an old pc into the garage and put Mjlj V3.2.1 on it and succesfully flashed the unit in the car and everything is hunky dorry now.

Thanks,
Steve
