No spark on 4age
Hi, I've just finished the conversion from xflow to 4age in my Westy.
When trying to start it I get fuel but no spark.
I'm using the toyota wiring loom and have done the tests described in Haynes, the ignition coil and the distributor have the correct
resistances.
I had a few bad earths when I first tried starting it, might this have damaged the ignitor or ecu? (all fuses are ok)
I wondered if anyone had any ideas of what to do next?

Another thing I've noticed is that the charge light is very dim. Don't know if that helps at all?

When you say you are using the Toyota loom, how much of it have you got? - I use it complete with the engine bay fuse box & relays, which means
you keep all the standard ecu wiring etc. & all you need to do is feed it with a permanent live, an earth, ign live, fuel pump wiring &
starter trip & it will run. If you have the loom split behind the fusebox it's a bit more complicated.
The charge light dim may indicate a poor permanent feed to the alternator (which IIRC feeds most of the rest of the engine bay loom) or a poor engine
earth.
The wiring diagrams are available online if you want them, tho' they are not very good. Unfortunately the Haynes manual & all the wiring
digs I've found are all for the American model & hence are complicated by extra wires for A/C, cruise control, additional emissions etc
etc
I have found that these old Toyota looms frequently have brittle wires/connectors so worth checking the multiplugs carefully to make sure that wires
are actually intact & not just sitting in place but not connected.

I've got the wiring almost identical to Rob Lanes' diagram. Which is pretty much what I was left with after
stripping out unused bits.
I'll go and have another check of earths, permanent feed to the alternator and bad connector blocks.

Got it started! The problem was the one bit of wiring I made up myself, a relay was dropping the voltage from 12 to 2v for some reason.
