SPEEDO
Just had to ask. Is it possible to use a new electronic production car speedo, what would you need and how much of a problem would it be, or can you
adapt a motor bike one?

Anything is possible - it just depends how hard you want to work to achieve it.
Doing stuff that other people have done makes it easier as there is usually someone you can ask that has already solved the problems.
If no-one has done it before, it doesn't mean it can't be done, but you will have to work out the tricky bits for yourself.
I guess if you want to use a new production car speedo you will need the sensors etc off the production car and make sure that the wheels, tyres and
diff etc are the same as the car it comes from or be prepared for some thinking.
Cheers

"That thing you're thinking - it wont be that."

^^^^ that is what I plan to do. It works on the assumption that the speedo head receives pulses, the frequency of which are related to vehicle
speed.
Some electronics (like the speedo healer thing) should be able to drive any speedo from any sensor.
my requirement is a it more stringent than yours since I am looking for a speedo that will fit in an 80 mm instrument case.
bike speedos - I would guess these are electronic too nowadays, maybe I should look at thiose although they do go to very large mph (on the bigger
bikes) and I would be using a small conrer of the dial.
ass ^^^, anything is possible given enough time and money.
ready made speedos that can be calibrated come in at over £ 150 - I'm kinda hoping I;ll be able to tonk something up for less t han £ 50.

That's what I did and it passed SVA easily. Make sure you create a light for it that comes on with side/head lights and you're done.

So long as you can work out what signal the speedo needs,Bob is your fathers brother. Ideally you want to get hold of the speedo sensor as well.
