permanent and switched live circuits
Im thinking that the turn signal circuit should be on a permanent live source due to hazards, but what about main lighting?
something is nagging at me about parking lights and SVA! Should these be permanent live too? What about dipped lights? I cant think of any reason why
hi beam cant be switched live, (ignition).
Cheers!
If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

Indicators are usually switched live, hazards are permanent live - but don't worry, it's usually sorted out in the hazard switch
wiring!
Sidelights have to be permanent live (otherwise you couldn't leave them on when you park in a dark street) but headlights are optional. Mine
are on a permanent feed, in case I want to look at something in the dark when the engine's not running (ooer!).
Everything else is optional - on my Toyota, the brake lights are permanent live... no idea why...

The only bit I'm not sure about is if you have a battery cut-off switch as a secondary theft prevention thingy for SVA is it allowed to
completely cut-out the battery or only the switched supply? IE to leave the hazards and sides on....
Mine passed fine with it completely cutting the juice, but I'd be interested in knowing what the official stance is....

I was planning on running my sidelights off switched live. I basically plan to drive with the lights on all the time so i'm a wee bit more
visible, so I thought with all the lights on a switched feed I can just turn the engine off and not have to bother with turning the lights on/off
every time. My mrs' Alfa does this, and so presumably do all the Volvos that have lights on permanently when running. How do they get around it?

I've just had a look in the sva manual and I can't see anything about 'parking' lights, or any requirement for the position
lamps to be able to operate from a permanent supply. Of course, I could be missing something...

I think the deal is that parking lights have to be able to be left on as marker lghts, for example in a dark street.
If they were on a switched supply then youd have to leave the ignition on in order to leave the parking lights on.
If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

I understand that's what people are saying, but I can't find any reference in the SVA manual, and the other half's Alfa
doesn't do it either...
EDIT: Of course, it's an Alfa, so you can't really trust the electrics to do what they're supposed to, but still...

Mine isn't wired for it and it wasn't checked at SVA
