Wiring for cigarette lighter
Which way around do you wire in a cigarette lighter (12v supply)? I don't want anything I plug in to run backwards! Is it +ve pin is the centre
and -ve to the casing?

Make sure you wire it with at least 16Amp wire, and put a 15 Amp fuse in line as well.
The current (Amps) spec for a Lighter socket is quite high, so ensure the wiring all the way back to the battery is the right size (and fused).
You dont want a fire due to using too thinner wire with a too big a fuse

The feeling is, I am unlikely to be able to take the car away for long trips, if I don't have the ability to charge a phone or TomTom etc.
Don't worry - that is by far the most luxury my car is having. I traded cigarette lighter for windscreen - seemed like a good trade!

How do you tell whether your cigarette lighter is running backwards?

It cools rather than burns the cigarette.

The SVA man said mine was the first Locost he's seen with a lighter socket (though obviously being anti-smoking I call it a 12v accessory socket
).....
Useful for charging the mobile whilst on a blat (even I don't hear it ringing!!!)...

My socket isn't a lighter one, even though you could plug one in - it's got a flip-up cover that says '12v 10A' on it!
My trickly charger ( ) is usually plugged into it when the car's in the garage...
This discussion reminds me of a motorcyclist I saw in Austria - zooming along at 60-ish mph, smoking a pipe, and leaving occasional clouds of pipe
smoke behind him!

I have wired outlets such as this with only a 1 amp fuse - it's not intended for an output only for trickle charger which are genrally
150-300MA. As Bike engines/batteries are not meant to be drawn from without being powered.
