how does the clutch cable cable go in?
Hi guys,
I'm trying to fit my clutch cable. I can obviously see how t connects to the pedal and the relase arm, but i don't know how to turn it
round the corner, if you see what i mean.
Is there something that goes between the arm and the pedal that changes its direction?

Normally it will loop forwards from the pedal before returning to the arm.
Mine has the pedal on the right hand side of the engine with the clutch lever on the left (originally designed for left hand drive) so the cable is a)
long and b) loops over the rocker box.

what pedal box are you using?
i assume you're talking about the pedal end.

edit: just re read the OP and can't figure out what you mean. do you have an outer cable? the inner cable is supported by the outer and the
outer supports itself.

i know how to attatch it to the clutch pedal and to the release arm but there must be something half way between the 2 where after leaving the pedal
heading towards the front of the car, the cable turns around and heads towards the clutch release arm
if anyone using a floor mounted pedal box has a photo of there attatched clutch cable i would be grateful as its difficult to put in words what i
mean

Yes, it's called a bend  You need to loop the cable into the largest radius bend possible and if necessary support it with cable clips.

daft question - do you have a cable with a plastic outer covering that the cable slides inside? Each end of the outer cable rest either at the gearbox
bellhousing or the pedal box.
If so, refer to my previous answer,
If not, you need a proper clutch cable.

yeah my cable has an outer cover, it was the cable i removed from my sierra
so i not need to hold the outer cable with something?

Think the answer is in the way the ad is worded-- " hydraulic clutch"
With a cable clutch the cable attaches below the pivot point of the pedal . Hydraulic clutch attaches above pivot point.

sorry, i should have said, i havent actually bought that pedal box, i have bought one similar that has a cable clutch. I used that link because it is
near enough the same.

I think everyone is a little confused (at least I am, but that's nothing new!).
Does your clutch cable mate up with the pedal box and the clutch fork in the bellhousing ok?
What do you mean by "so i not need to hold the outer cable with something"? Obviously the outer cable has to be restrained by something
at either end or the cable won't do anything.
Could you take a picture and post it up?

Sierra has an auto adjustor mechanism on the clutch pedal to take up the slack . What you need is a cable with a threaded section at the gearbox end.

The outer cable butts up against the bulkhead where the inner goes in and attaches to the pedal. The outer cable then loops round and is connected to
the bellhousing where the inner goes through and connects to the clutch release arm.
There is no other support needed for the outer cable.
Hope that makes it a little clearer

ok, ive got it now, i didnt realise how the cable worked, with the inner moving seperate of the outer, i think i need a shorter cable tho
