Fusible link
Is there anything special about a fusible link (the thing that stops your loom melting ). And where can you get one ?

it's just a big assed Fuse - rated high enough that all the leccy can run through it.
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

Yep, probably something like 100A should do it - you would need a direct short to blow that one!

Better still fit a miniature circuit breaker ---

That would be perfect, but remember to insert it into the loom - not the starter circuit which can draw over 100A when cranking.

I've got one of these things wired into the main loom feed wiring (NOT the starter circuit, please!)
It uses fuses like this
£2.15p for the holder, 30p per fuse, from VWP (+vat etc.)

Fusible links are a special wire that melts at a certain amperage per inch of length. A 4" length will melt at lower amperes than a
2".
It can be identified by the soft insulation and how flexible it is.
It is a fuse, and needs to be the correct length and amperage for the circuit it is protecting. It can be replaced with any other fuse/breaker as
long as it is the correct amperage.
Cheers.

I got one with the BMW 7-series loom I used for extra wire colours.
Although at £2-£3 new they're hardly worth scraping your knuckles for at the breakers!
