No Spark on R1 Engine - Faulty Pick-up Coil?

Hi,

The Engine is a 2000 5JJ on carbs.
I can't get a spark and I think the pick-up coil may be the problem.

It turns over fine, all the "necessary" bike switches have been shorted. It doesn't have a cyclelock on the loom (i believe its a US version) and i have earthed the ECU wires as far as i can see. I have 12v at the coils and the fuel pump is also working.

The only unknown i have is the pick-up coil and as i understand these are imperative to getting a spark.

Oh and as i've been writing this i've remembered i havent wired the temp sensor in - could this be the cause of the problem instead?

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

No, I've no temp sensor (for the ECU) and I'm okay.

Update:

I've got hold of an R1 manual and checked the pickup coil according to that by measuring resistance across it. Seems that its within tolerance so it cant be that. I have just doubled checked all earths from the ecu and relay assy and all seems well.

Now im really stumped. Maybe my ecu is faulty?

I have also just remembered that when i got the loom the plug on the rectifier was all melted, which i have since replaced. I was told at the time that this was common as they get hot on the bike.

Maybe in its history this could have caused damage to the loom/components?

Chris.
