Misfire?

My zetec with bike carbs has an idle speed misfire that pops and bangs in the exhaust. HC level is around 1350, reving to 2K for the emissions test the HC goes down to 380 and the engine is smooth and quiet...

The plugs are brand new but the leads and coil pack are what came with the engine so I have to imagine they are 15 years old or so, maybe not the leads but they don't look new.

I had a tinker with the carbs and it will tick over at 500rpm but has that boom, pop pop sound in the exhaust.

Any ideas chaps??

Steve

Mine was making a similar sound at tickover. I carefully balanced the carbs and leaned the idle mixture off a bit which improved it.

I also backed the ignition advance off to 8 degrees [from 12] at tickover which also made it smoother.

I haven't had my emmisions checked yet though.
