Fitting radio to old car - pt2

Following on from the previous thread at the weekend, i have done all the wiring - power, earth and placed a fuse near the battery.
There is a red light behind the removable cover that flashes (as it should) and the unit will accept Cd's and eject them but the actual unit wont switch on.
This is a new unit and works ok in the Jag so what am i missing?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

I haven't seen the rest of the post but I think you'll need 2 "live" feeds to the radio - switched live (ignition) and perm Live (battery)

the stereo mighgt have 3 power wires. black (earth) red (perm live) and yellow (switched)

the yellow one can go to the ignition switch to turn off the stereo when you turn the ignition off, or wired to permanant live (connected to the red one) so that its always on unless you press the power button

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

possibly has two live supplies

1 for standbye - you have red light + eject
2 for power to play

second one is probably an ignition live

Just a wild guess

Paul

The permanent live is usually to keep the radio's memory powered. The switched live is the one that actually makes it work (I think )
