Pics of Alternator Connections
Has anybody got views of their engine installation, showing clear shots of the alternator connections?
You can see owt on modern installations, 'cos there's always summat in t' b****y way!

Connections
Connections to the alternator, battery, and starter solenoid, please.

In your case there are only 2 wires to the alternator B+ goes to the battery 30A wire, D+ goes to the dash battery light bulb (bulb not LED) then to
the ignition switch.
Starter has again just 2 wires, Heavy wire from battery goes to starter solenoid, threaded connector. Spade connector goes to the starter switch, 20A
wire.

Very impressive, Mr. Whippy, and comprehensive also. Many thanks for these useful pics. Do you have any of the Lucas/Bosch version? Reason I ask -
there's a threaded connection on the alt body, about half-way along its length. Not too sure how that should be connected. Can't see any
clues from the Haynes Sierra circuit diags.

If the thread is simply tapped into the casing of the alternator then it is nothing more than an earth strap connection. There are simply too many
versions even on the same car model. Really only the two connections are important. All other insulated outputs are for axillaries, some permanently
live others not. Lucas used three spade connections on some of the Ford cars, you can ditch the normal connector and just use new spades but they
should be soldered to take the current.

Hi
I have a copy of the Hella catalogue which lists most alternator formats and connections, do you know which vehicle your alternator was fitted to and
it's manufacturer?

I bought this alternator from one of the stands at Stoneleigh, so only know that it was suitable for mounting on the nearside of the engine. It
appears to be a recon version of the Lucas model fitted to Mk 3 Escorts.
