FUEL LEVEL SENDER

Good evening all

Can anyone help with a dumb question please ?

My fuel gauge doesn't appear to indicate correctly and I am wondering if I have missed something with the wiring at the sender.

There's just one wire to the sender which I imagine must rely on the sender body being earthed to make it work ? If so is it better to earth the body of the sender, or earth it via the tank body ? Is it good practice to earth the tank itself anyway ?

Any help gratefully received please !!

Thanks
Simon

i'd take the belt and brace approach and earth both.

the circuit should be:

12 V ---- gauge ------- sender ---- earth

Just test with an extra wire. Say from the battery to the gauge, or the tank. Easy to do and you'll have the answer straigt away.
