hey guys just bought the Haynes book and been having a gander through it. from what I can see the box section and tubes etc for making the frame it doesn't give you a total amount of each you will roughly need and I really don't want to spend hrs adding up all the sizes of the frame. if anyone can help on this it would be brilliant so I can start ordering my steel and start my build cheers scott

I bought;

6 x 6m of 1 inch square.
2 x 6m of 3/4 inch square.

for the chassis, and for the suspension I went;

3m of 19mm tube
2.5m of 25mm tube
1.5m of 33.7mm tube (2.6mm thickness for the bush tubes)

£150 for all that.

It's a good job you didn't add up the lengths, the Haynes manual has a few multiples missing so you'd have ended up short!

Edit: Should also mention the suspension tubes are for shorter MX5 based wishbones, so you might want to check those lengths.

Personally I went for standard lengths because it's often useful to have offcuts and spare bits. I also wasn't confident I could get to the end of the build and not make at least one cock up with a weld or a fit.

The ready cut packs are also several times more expensive.

I'm on my second front frame and this one is 4mm out. Unless I can push it back I'll be making another!

The book also misses the x4 multiple for SB1, which if I'd read ahead would have substituted for 25mm x 50mm box...
